Wisden Notebook

Post by simonburrowes »

I just wondered whether others were as ignorant as me about the Wisden notebooks just sold on WA. I must confess that I had never heard of the notebooks and I thought it fascinating to see the pics and read the description. I just can't recall ever having heard of them at any stage in my collecting, although admittedly that's really only been over the past 7/8 years. Still, one would have thought there'd have been some mention somewhere. Anywhere else one could get a slightly fuller history of them? Do you have a set, Chris? Surely I'm not the only one who had never heard them......................

Thanks Simon

I'm surprised it only went for £690 given the rarity

rare they may be but maybe because they are so rare ie no-one-well not many of us-knew about them, the prices aren’t as high as one might expect. Ie not enough interest for a proper market to form.

I wonder just how many copies are out there or how many were printed?

Having said that it’s still a fair wedge.

I’d like to think my Wisden Cricket Diary from the 80s might go for such a price...one day!

I guess that will depend on what you recorded in it. If it's like mine with an analysis of every innings played and bowling spell during the season, I don't think it'll be worth more than a penny a run plus a penny a wicket. I'll leave you to guess the maximum value that would produce.

(Hint, the postage might cost more than the diary.  )
